Royal Rumble 2024 Was A Little Disappointing
Thoughts On Royal Rumble 2024 On Peacock PLE PPV
The Rumble needed something more.
The royal rumble was on Saturday, January 27th. I did watch the whole PPV on Saturday and thought the show wasn't that great.
It was good to see Pat Mcafee return, and he definitely added a good feel to commentary because he's very entertaining and him and Cole are great together. I'm not big on Corey Graves. I was also glad to see that Cole and Mcafee are commentating on raw.
The Women's royal rumble was the best match on the card. The match had a few surprises, like Jordynne Grace, and Namoi. Namoi lasted a while, and it was good to see her. Grace looked jacked and was a shocker because it shows that wwe can work with other companies which is a great thing. I did find R-truth coming out funny because I'm a fan of his. Even though he wasn't in it and Nia threw him out. Nia looked strong with throwing out 8 people, and I wouldn't be surprised if she goes after Rhea and beats her for the title at mania. Nia has definitely shown that she has improved since she was last in wwe. Jade showing up and the debut in the rumble, she looked like she might be something to watch and how she threw out Nia was a shocker. She will be something to watch. I did like the returns, but when Liv came out, I was glad she was back, but my expectations were so high that I kind of was disappointed and expected someone else like AJ Lee or Trish. In the end, Baylee won by throwing out Liv. Bayley was my pick because I thought she needed it with the way damage control has been built up over the last couple years, and her winning it was the best decision, she did last a while coming out at number 3, and I know she will have a great match and tell a great story against Iyo Sky.
The Universal Title fatal 4 way did kind of offered nothing to me and was disappointing, because it's the same old finish we get on every few PPV Roman is on. At least for like a year to a year and a half, as in Roman is going to get defeated, then a member of the bloodline comes out, and Roman Retains the title. Roman looked like he was going to get defeated by Randy, but Solo got involved, then Roman hit the spear on AJ and retained the title. I think it's great that Roman retained but the title defenses are getting old and needs a new finish for Roman to retain the title.
Logan Paul VS Kevin Owens was a good match and very entertaining. Logan is good to see on tv and very entertaining. The match was very much back and forth to where Owens could have won but in the end some guy named Jeff, one of logan friends got out of the crowd and gave logan brass knuckles which Owens took out of Logan hands and used them on him. The referee was counting and saw them which led to a DQ finish. Which almost never happens. It felt like with Theory and Waller coming out and Owens getting DQ, that this match isn't over, and I could see a rematch at Chamber or a 6-man match for the title with the 4 that were involved in the match and maybe adding LA Knight or someone else. Like a 6 man at Mania with LA Knight winning the United States Title. YEAH!
The Men's Royal Rumble was a little disappointing.
The match started with Jey Vs Jimmy which would great to see at mania. The way Jimmy was acting like he would partner with other people like I'm cool was funny at times. I kind wish this match had some older stars return like X-Pac or even Shamrock. Bron Breaker looked strong and someone to keep an eye on. I think he should go on to defeat Gunther for the title. But he eliminating Omos was like wow, this is someone to take a look at and it's time to bring him up on to the main roster. The pat moment felt kind of pointless like instead of him winning, why not Randy pop-in for a minute or an older star from the past can return. Number 30 was Sami Zane, which was great to see him but felt disappointing. Like, why not, just bring The Rock out. I know CM Punk was in it and sucked he got injured by Drew ddt, which will tell a great story when Punk comes back, and this felt like at the last minute wwe decided to go with Cody without any thinking. I was a little disappointed because Cody winning was great but I'm not a big Cody fan. Also, this felt like all that for him to lose again to Roman. I feel like Roman is going to be champion for long enough that Roman passes Hogan title record.
Who Will Cody Face? Closing Thoughts
I feel like Cody would have been a better choice to win 2025 Royal Rumble. But I think he's going to finish the story and go after Seth Rollins for the world heavyweight title. I think we already got Roman vs Cody but could get it down the road like next year again. But I do think there is a chance that Cody will go after Roman and finish his story and win the title from Roman. That way Roman can take a break. It will also be a feel-good WrestleMania moment.
I thought the rumble was an okay PPV and I thought it would have been better if The Rock would have returned. But I guess I understand why Cody won the rumble. I just hope the next months after WrestleMania are still good tv for SmackDown, but we will see.
